Wharton Named Winner at Juried Show

Fondren Renaissance has announced the winners of the 2014 Cedars Juried Art Show in an opening reception at The Cedars.

Jackson artist Mike Wharton took first place and a $1,000 prize for his graphite on paper work, “Bob.”

Jean Seymour of Jackson took second and a $500 prize for her mixed media work, entitled, “The Bubble.” In third place, Jackson artist Elizabeth Wolfe took home $250 for her oil on panel piece, “Dog Days.”

Honorable mentions, in no particular order, were awarded to Benny Melton of Oxford for “Juxtaposition of Jurisdiction” (Melton was the show winner in 2013); Victoria Ramsey of Ridgeland for “Do These Spots Make Me Look Big”; and Stacy Underwood of Jackson for “Michael, My Friend.”

The pool of over 80 works from 71 artists in 22 Mississippi cities was selected by the art committee of Butler Snow, LLP and final selections were juried by esteemed artist, Jere Allen.

The Cedars Juried Show is open to the public through September 30, Tuesday – Friday from 10am – 4pm. The exhibit is free. See a list of artists in the show and RSVP on our Facebook event here.
