Symphony at Sunset 2014

IMG_9034bNow in its fourteenth year, Symphony at Sunset, September 18, 2014, is held annually at The Cedars (4145 Old Canton Road) and features the entire Mississippi Symphony Orchestra in a concert that is free and open to the public.

Presented and generously underwritten for a decade by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Mississippi, this evening is also made possible by the many private and corporate donors whose desire it is to bring the arts into the public domain for all to enjoy. This year, they are Bank First; BKD, LLP; Ann Brock; Brown Bottling Company; Jack W. Cooke, Jr. PA; Delta Royalty Company, Inc.; Entergy Mississippi, Inc.; Ergon; First Commercial Bank; Harvey Construction; Hotel and Restaurant Supply; Kat’s Wine & Spirits; Nix-Tann and Associates; Scanlon Taylor Millwork; Southern Beverage Company; St. Dominic Health Services, Inc.; Top It Off Events; Trustmark; University of Mississippi Medical Center; and Wise Carter Child & Caraway, P.A..

This year’s concert will honor Fondren business and restaurant owners Jennifer and Derek Emerson of the famed Walker’s Drive-In and Local 463 and, more recently CAET. The theme for this year’s Symphony at Sunset is “Think Local – Support Local” and takes its cue from the mission that has driven these entrepreneurs to such regional and national acclaim.

Fondren Renaissance executive director Jim Wilkirson said of the Emersons, “Their drive and determination to revitalize Fondren as a restaurant destination has been one the epicenters of Fondren’s growth and prominence in our urban renewal. They live and embody our underlying theme of celebrating Fondren as a place that has kept its historical roots, but revitalized itself into a center of urban culture. They have driven us home to realize that we need to support all things local in order for the “roots” of our American culture to survive and thrive.”

Concert-goers are welcomed to bring their own picnics and lawn chairs or blankets. Free parking is available across from The Cedars at St. Andrews lower elementary school with a security guard crossing. Corporate tables are being offered (click here for a PDF form) along with “friends” tables. For more, contact the Fondren Renaissance office at 601.981.9606.
