“Sidewalk Grant” Project Construction Begins
Construction has begun on the years-in-the-making Federal Transportation Enhancement Grant, the “Sidewalk Grant” to most of you.
A “surface improvement” grant, the work consists of ADA accessible sidewalk replacement, landscaping, wayfinding signage and other above-street work. This grant does not include sewer or water line replacement nor paving.
Phase one, now underway, includes the eastern sidewalk and associated lanes from BancorpSouth to just north of BankPlus. All work, including tearing out and replacement of the sidewalk, road narrowing (in some spots) and the foundation/formation of beds for landscaping (to be planted at the end of the entire project) will be completed in this area first. The western sidewalk, from The Pig & Pint to Sir Speedy comes next.
Phase two covers Old Canton Road from BancorpSouth to Glenway Drive. Phase three and four will cover wok on Fondren Place and Duling Avenue.
